I use a lot of tools in my day-to-day work evaluating website opportunities.  I absolutely would not be able to do my job effectively and filter high quality opportunities without these tools.  I’ve included some recommendations that are not as vital, but that you still might find useful.

Due Diligence

Ahrefs – I use this service almost everyday to gain insight into the backlink profile of potential listings. You can learn very quickly if the growth has been natural and the site has a diversified amount of authority backlinks, or if the backlinks have been manipulated though the use of spammy techniques that could lead to problems in the future.

This service is also absolutely vital for researching domains for the use in PBNs.  Finding “clean” domains to use as the base of your PBN is critical and establishing that the link profile hasn’t been spammed is my first check once a domain has passed the quantitative quality filters.

SEMRush – I use SEMrush for a variety of different checks.

Traffic Verification – I always crosscheck SEMrush with the Google Analytics data to make sure the two metrics correlate. SEMrush isn’t perfect and you shouldn’t rely on their traffic metric alone, but used in cooperation with other metrics and data it can be an important check to make sure you don’t buy a dud.

Keyword Intelligence – Using this feature you can track how the website has tracked in the search engines over time and what impact different google updates have had on a property.

 Outsourcing – I’ve tried a number of sources for outsourced workers and still use on a project basis, but this has been the best resource I have found for hiring full-time workers.
